The Parenthetical Phrase
Life happens in the parentheses.
Hello, friends.
Monday was my birthday. Which means I can officially begin again. Again. for the 54th time.
This go around, I am cancer free. I have a new career plan. I have kids who are inches away from figuring shit out. (inches but also miles)
Ryan is inching toward retirement. (inches but also miles)
My sides are sore from laughing. My liver is sore from Kirkland wine.
My heart is full.
A funeral party. That is what I want when I wrap up this world and head into the next…but until then…
I’m making some changes.
What was formerly known as Dear John, will now be called The Parenthetical Phrase. Because that’s where the good writing is, the funny shit, where life happens…
Within the parenthesis.
On the 5 year plan of life, I have 4 left. 365 x 4 = 1,460 days. (cancer talk)
What’s happening in my parentheses today?
Every time I use the bathroom at the yoga studio, I move the toilet paper from down to up. Who are these people who go down?
I’ve pinpointed when we (us, collectively, as a human race) began our decline into the abyss…it was the seemingly benign moment we stopped using 2 spaces after the period. Nothing has been the same since.
These not synonymous - knowing and believing. writer and author. hearing and listening.
And why are both words - toward and towards - acceptable? My children love the word towards. I’m a believer in toward. (at least they are going forward…)
And this whole leap year thing. Really? (we, collectively, as a human race) will literally accept anything.
Happy New Year to me and my fellow Pisces.
Leap year. The election of old white men (again). The Paris Olympics. And Saturn conjunct the sun in Pisces which hasn’t happened for early March Pisces since 1995. (back when we used two spaces)
Cheers!
PS
I am sure I will still write letters to no one and I’m sure I will share them here…also for those of you who are new, the reference to 5 years is cancer humor, I could link back to old posts but that will take too long and there’s a break in the rain and I have dogs to walk who hate the rain. But feel free to circle back.

Oh my Jules, I knew this had to be you, when I saw parenthetical phrase..... I didn't see Dear John till later.
I like all parts of this...... so CHEERS to this next you! ❤️ mom
Happy birthday sweet friend!!🎉 🎈 😊🩷
I was so happy to see this in my email - made my day! And I still do a dang double space after every period.
